2021 New Car Sales

By July 8, 2021July 16th, 2021No Comments

Australia’s new car market has continued to improve despite all the challenges over the last 12 months. June numbers indicate more than 110,600 new cars were reported as delivered almost a 0.5% increase on the same month last year.
In sheer numbers, not a massive increase month-on-month however the looking at the year compared to the previous – more than 125,000 more vehicles.

June is typically one of the strongest if not the strongest sales month on new cars. This is generally driven by motivated dealers to move stock, business owners wanting to get it in for this financial year plus there’s been other tax incentives around advanced depreciation on capital purchases.

Toyota has again claimed pole position when it comes to sales numbers, 21,076 equating to 19% market share.
Mazda took out the silver with 12,200 units – 11% market share.

Ford claimed the bronze with 7.6% market share delivering 8450 units closely followed by Kia at 7,350 units (6.6% market share)

The exciting brand is Isuzu – They only have two vehicles in their line-up, yet they made the top 10 and delivered 3,960 units. These figures will only go up once the new MUX is launched into the market.

Individual models by manufacturers that shone were Ford Ranger 6058 units, Toyota Hilux 5412 units followed by the D-Max with 3167 units delivered. The Mazda Cx-5wasn’t far behind in fourth position with 3018 units delivered.

Kia Cerato the only non-SUV to make the top 5, delivered out at 2,711 units

Toyota nabbed the next two spots with Prado 2,610 delivered and Rav-4 with 2,501 whilst i30 from Hyundai came in at 8th with 2,331.

Mitsubishi Triton slipped 2 spots and delivered 2,240 at 9th spot and Toyota Corolla delivered out at 2,175 cars.

It’s interesting numbers and gives us an insight to where the market is currently and an indication as to where it’s headed.

SUV’s definitely account for a large portion of the sales now with more than 48% of all vehicle’s sold.

The other interesting segment is the electric/hybrid market. 6,600+ were sold in June with Hybrids making up the largest portion of that at 5,842 units.

I’m certain this segment will continue to build in numbers as manufacturers develop better systems, additional options and the other manufacturers have an offering the market will become more competitive which will drive more sales.
